High Value Veggie Crops!!!! 1000 Bushels per Acre Farming 2022

I am at the University of Guelph Muck Research Center with Kevin Van Der Kooi where I learn about two high-value crops Onions and Carrots that average between 1000 and 1500 bushels per acre. I can't believe the yields compared to our wheat yields in Montana, which are less than 90 bushels per acre!!! This is so fascinating to learn about how these high-value crops are irrigated and how the research center is finding ways to prevent downy mildew from devastating onion crops! There are over 35 varieties of onions, which is amazing! Fresh vegetables for cooking or salads are so interesting! Of course, the Nexus farming robot working to learn the difference between weeds and lettuce is incredible!!! The weather stations and air testing methods they use are very interesting too. This reminds me of the way that Montana State University is doing research on Saw Flies that devastate our wheat crops. I am very grateful for all the hard work the researchers do globally to help improve our crops! Don't forget if you are an onion or carrot producer and you have questions this research center is there to help! A big thank you to the University of Guelph Muck Research Center! I hope you enjoyed my video today! Thank you for watching!

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am an 18-year-old 4th-generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
