It's a Harrowing Experience in Montana! | Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion

A huge thank you to Steve and Diane Dahlman for making this possible

In this week's video, I learn about heavy harrowing with my neighbor Steve Dahlman. You will learn what a harrow is, how it operates, and how important it is. Harrowing helps spread the straw that comes out of the combine. This process is very important because it spreads out the lumps of straw. This way when you plant your seeds in the ground they all have an equal chance to grow. Harrowing also helps with weed prevention. Steve and I talk about how wheat prices are going down and this is making it very challenging for farmers to stay in business. We talk about how it is so important to purchase local farm and ranch products because you will be supporting your neighbor. Steve and I are both 4th generation farmers. Steve's family homesteaded his farm over 100 years ago. I believe it is very important to show all of the different farming operations not just my own. I hope you enjoy the video! I had so much fun making it.

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 16-year-old 4th generation farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
