Huge, bushy plants with a lot of pods, but tiny beans — no rain the entire months of July and August, and they couldn’t fill out. They were also wetter and running about 15 bushels behind what we cut the night before.

So we packed up and headed 5 miles south to 300–400 acres of an earlier bean we knew was ready. We also got the first crop off a field I bought about a year ago, jumped the ditch to save a trip down a narrow road, and finished the day around 200 acres.

And yes, I know a 1.8 bean is funny to some of you. I’m in western Minnesota.
