It’s –20 degrees in Wisconsin and quitting isn’t an option.
In today’s video, Emily and Avery battle extreme cold and keep the farm running. That means making sure our calves stay strong by keeping milk flowing and the milk room from freezing, giving them deep bedding, and making sure our older cattle have clean, dry places to nest through the cold.
We also spend time with our Wagyu x Holstein steers and explain why we started raising them. Adding another stream of income helps us keep farming long-term, and watching them belly up to the bunk in weather like this is exactly what we want to see. As ruminants, the more they eat, the more heat they generate to stay warm.
And because cold days always come with a little chaos, Emily finds the ditch and Avery has to come to the rescue using our Yankum rope. Good thing the truck kit lives in the pickup for moments like this.
This is winter farming in Wisconsin. Cold, demanding, and still worth it.
