We are into the final few days of drilling now, and with beautiful dry conditions and no rain in sight, the team are pushing hard to get the last of the wheat and barley in the ground. In this episode we follow the home straight across several blocks, talk through the ever rising seed rates, and share a few honest frustrations, including a brand new forklift that has locked us out of its own systems, and a messy, fume filled battle to empty our chemical containers.

The real focus, though, is black grass. We walk our very worst block and explain why, counterintuitively, a thick carpet of it right now is actually good news, because getting a strong flush to establish is the key to a clean kill before we drill. It is a genuine insight into the single biggest weed challenge on heavy land.

We also pull back the curtain on the audits that keep grain trustworthy, from a grain store inspection to the weighbridge checks, and catch up with the Ukrainian beekeepers who make their honey on the farm. From the last of the drilling to the fight against black grass, this is another look behind the scenes of a modern farming business.
