Harvest 2026 is properly underway, and the first barley is coming into the store. In this episode we get the full field by field picture of how the crop is yielding after nine weeks of drought, and the early results are more encouraging than we feared. We also explain a costly quirk of this year, with the grain coming in so dry that we are losing weight and value, and the clever solution we have found to win some of that back over the winter.
Out in the field the whole operation is in full flow, with four combines, the chaser bins and the lorries all working together, and a brilliant team settling into the rhythm. We get into the detail that makes the difference, from a new tyre trial and our move to 48 metre tram lines, to the big test of the year, hybrid barley against conventional, and what it could mean going forward.
There is also time to enjoy the best bit of the whole year, watching the store fill up, an honest word on the accounts and grain prices, and a final reminder about the Range Rover raffle for charity before Friday's draw.
