Harvest rolls on, and the drought is really making its presence felt. In this episode we get the combines into the beans, and explain the fine timing involved in cutting them before the heat splits the pods and the crop ends up on the floor. We also take an honest look at what this dry year is doing to our yields, with some crops coming in as much as 50% down on what we hoped.

Behind the combines the whole operation keeps moving. We follow the straw and baling and explain exactly why we bale in the first place, get into the challenge of cultivating rock hard ground ahead of the oilseed rape, and spread organic muck to put goodness back into hungry land. There is family involved too, with the children on board for drone duty and directing.
