The combines may have finished, but on a farm this size the work never really stops. In this episode we take on the big and rarely seen job of cleaning down after harvest, blowing down and washing the combines and chaser bins, converting the fuel, and getting everything put away properly before the rodents move in. We also turn straight into the next cycle, mapping and cultivating the new farms we have taken on, soil sampling, and getting seed beds ready for drilling.

There is some fascinating detail along the way, including a near 50% difference in fuel use between two tractors doing the same job, and a look at how we clean and colour sort the mustard, with a new sorter on its way from Italy. We also share a frustrating and honest story from the grain market, where wheat we sold at £270 a tonne is now proving a battle to shift at £200, after a mill started rejecting it over chaff.

Behind it all, the new fertiliser yard drainage goes in, a clever cultivator project takes shape, and the ever reliable workshop keeps the show on the road.

From the job nobody sees to an honest word on the market, this is another look behind the scenes of a modern farming business.
