Good morning, everyone! Welcome back to another beautiful (and slightly rainy) day on the potato farm. In today’s video, we’re moving pivots, digging in the sand, and checking out what might just be our biggest pile of potatoes yet — nearly 4 million pounds stacked high inside the cellar!
After a quick rain shower, the fields are perfect for digging. The sand’s nice and wet, which means no trucks getting stuck and perfect digging conditions. I move the pivot out of the way while the crew starts pulling up some beautiful sandy-grown potatoes — smooth, well-shaped, and great size overall.
But not everything’s perfect — this field’s got a few more small ones than expected, which means our “eliminator” pile is growing fast. These smaller taters might end up as fertilizer unless we can find a processor to take them for flakes. Still, the main pile is an absolute monster. By the time the cellar’s one-third full, it holds about 10 million pounds, and right now, we’re sitting at nearly half capacity — a solid mountain of spuds!
After checking the cellar, I head out chisel plowing, moving wheel lines, and tackling a few muddy messes from the rain. It’s a full day of work across the farm — from irrigation pivots to cellar piles to field prep for next year’s crop.
