What do you do with 50,000 sacks of eliminator potatoes when the market is flooded?
Most guys are dumping them in pits. Some are paying to haul them off. Others are feeding them to cattle for next to nothing.
We decided to test them.
We sent samples to the lab and ran a full manure compost analysis. What we found surprised us:
At 15 tons per acre, these eliminators are worth roughly:
165 units Nitrogen
40 units Phosphate
145 units Potash
9–10 units Sulfur
High carbon/organic matter value
Conservatively, that pencils out to about $250 per acre in fertilizer value — or roughly $1 per sack.
That’s more than our last potato check paid us.
Instead of flooding an already oversupplied processor market, we’re spreading them on second-year wheat ground and capturing the fertility value ourselves.
If you're a potato grower sitting on overages or culls, this might be another avenue to consider.
Have your agronomist sample yours and see what they’re worth.
