Welcome back to RMF Outdoors! Today is day one of transforming our little mountain shed into a full-blown cabin before winter hits… which is basically tomorrow.
I’ve watched about 5 hours of “YouTube University,” grabbed a pile of lumber, flashing tape, siding, and Liquid Nails, and decided to rip the garage door off this thing and frame in an entirely new wall and door. I’ve built plenty of stuff on the farm, but waterproofing a cabin in the mountains? Yeah… that’s new. 😅
In this video:
🔨 Removing the old garage door (and almost getting crushed)
🪚 Cutting trim, studs, siding, and nails with every tool I own
🚪 Framing a wall and installing a door with just minutes of daylight left
💡 Working by lantern light once the sun disappeared
🧰 Getting the siding on, sealing everything, and learning A LOT
❄️ Beating the winter cold by about 20 minutes
Honestly, I’m shocked at how good this turned out for not knowing what I was doing. The door fits perfect, the siding looks awesome, and it’s officially the first step toward turning this place into a tiny off-grid cabin. This winter we’ll be insulating, wiring, adding a window, maybe building a little kitchen—basically transforming this into an awesome mountain hideout.
Thanks for hanging out with me and my kids as we build this thing!
I’m Big T — and I’ll see you in the next one. ❤️🏔️
