Ever wondered how potatoes are planted on a massive scale? In this video, we take you behind the scenes of planting 1,000 acres of potatoes in just 7 days! We start in the cellar loading up trucks with seed potatoes—chunks slightly larger than a golf ball that have been cut, treated, and prepped for the field.

Then we head out to the field where we run three 6-row planters, powered by air suction technology for precise seed placement. I’ll walk you through everything: from how the seed gets from the truck to the planter, how fertilizer is applied directly in the seed trench, and how our planters use GPS and electric sensors to maintain accuracy and consistency at high speeds.

We also cover different methods of loading planters, how our equipment is set up for efficiency, and what makes our Lockwood Air Cup planter different (and louder!) than the rest.
