In this update it’s time to plant the beans. These are not the usual beans other farmers grow. 4 years ago we started a project with Warwick University growing a British variety of Navy beans called Capulet. Navy beans are the type which end up in a tin as baked beans. We are are also growing 2 varieties of cannellini beans, these are the type you’d put in a curry, casserole or other foods. They will be harvested 120 days from the day of planting so follow the story of how we’re trying to develop the crop in the UK.
Glyphosate is also in the news again but there’s a lot of mis information and untruths told by people wanting it banned. At the start of the update I go through the true facts about how safe it is and how everyday products people are happy to consume are far more toxic
The combine from our recent machines sake finally leaves the farm but it’s going local so I’ll keep my eye on it this harvest!
The sugar beet gets its first herbicide but there’s weeds are a little bigger that I’d like.
