Fall Deer hunting 2017 highlights so far! Michigan hunting at it's best (or worst)! I had the opportunity to shoot at several small bucks, and several young deer. Our rule of thumb on our 87 acres is let small bucks get bigger and try to shoot only mature deer. However, in all things there must be balance, and even shooting too many mature deer can leave younger, inexperienced deer at danger of starving over harsh winters. Game cameras help us track our populations and determine what to shoot.

I also take a look at the BRAND NEW Illusion Deer Calling System with the Extinguisher Deer Call and the new Black Rack rattlers as well as the instructional DVD. The system seems pretty logical, but didn't seem to pull-in any big bucks like it claimed. Although the Extinguisher Deer Call DID seem to impress Does and young Bucks. This call has the added benefit of NOT clogging with moisture like most calls, plus it has a pitch slider so you can quickly change from a deep mature buck to a high-pitched fawn.

As far as a deer call goes, the Extinguisher deer call beats them all for ease of use!

Ultimately, I think our mature bucks are so used to humans and hunting that they have heard/seen every trick in the book and are not fooled by imitations!

Fingers crossed to get "The BIG One" or at the very least, a nice doe yet this year!
