Welcome back to Day 5 of wheat harvest! After yesterday’s wheel disaster, we start the day with Agri Service making more repairs and checking the other side of the combine. We’re hoping—fingers crossed—for our first trouble-free day of harvest!

But that’s not the only challenge. We battle a pivot that keeps shutting down, get equipment stuck in the mud in over 100-degree heat, and deal with trucks falling behind while trying to keep the wheat moving.

The biggest news of the day, though, might be a simple modification we made to our Fendt IDEAL 9 header. The header has been bridging and plugging in our heavy wheat, keeping us from using the combine anywhere near its full capacity. Christopher and I come up with a potential fix, move the reel assembly, and suddenly we’re able to increase our harvest speed dramatically!

Could moving a couple of bolts really save us several DAYS of wheat harvest? We put it to the test!

We finish one field, move to a new 200+ acre field, haul a completely loaded grain cart several miles down the road, and then run into one final problem after dark—hidden pipe in a newly rented field!
