Here at Driscoll Potatoes, we’re touring their fresh potato shed, where they package potatoes for grocery stores, including Costco. We might be growing potatoes for them this year, so you may see them in stores next year. The tour starts at the receiving bay, where trucks unload pre-sized Norkota potatoes. Smaller ones are sent to processors, while the rest go through a rock trap, a flume for dirt removal, and a sprayer with water and clove oil to extend shelf life. After washing, the potatoes are sized using an advanced camera system that sorts them into different categories. Small potatoes go to bagging, while larger ones are packed in cartons. The facility even has a bomb shelter repurposed for storage. Their state-of-the-art equipment ensures precise grading and minimal waste. Each packaging type—bags, cartons, or bulk—has different costs and pricing. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes insights into how fresh potatoes get from the farm to your table!
