We're finally shutting the water off on our fall wheat... harvest is getting close!
Today is all about checking crops, dialing in irrigation, and seeing how this year's potato crop is shaping up. We shut down some of our wheat pivots, inspect the kernels to see how harvest is coming along, and get our hay fields ready for second cutting.
Then comes one of the coolest moments of the season—we dig up a single potato plant and count 16 potatoes growing from one seed piece! If the rest of the field looks like this, we could be looking at one of our biggest potato crops yet.
We also:
Start and stop irrigation pivots
Check wheat kernels and hay maturity
Dig potatoes to see this year's potential
Adjust rain gauges for more accurate watering
Repair irrigation equipment
Fix a cracked Fiber Stacker before second-cutting hay
Talk about weed control, Verticillium, and this year's crop outlook
Every day on the farm brings something different, and we're getting one step closer to wheat harvest while trying to keep our potatoes and hay looking their best.
Thanks so much for watching and supporting our family's 4th-generation Idaho farm!
