Spring planting took an unexpected turn today… ❄️🥔

We showed up ready to keep pushing through potato season, only to find the fields covered in snow. Not exactly what you expect in the middle of planting—but out here, Mother Nature always keeps things interesting.

Today I’m out dammer diking our freshly planted potato fields, making sure every row is built right so the potatoes stay covered and don’t turn green. Between snow showers, steep hills that nearly lifted the tractor off the ground, snagging an old barbed wire fence, and digging up hidden concrete slabs from farms that existed here over 100 years ago… it turned into one of those days where something unexpected was waiting around every corner.

Meanwhile, the rest of the crew keeps the Lockwood planters rolling—even planting through the snow—and then right at the end of the day I get called away for an emergency parts run to save one of our loaded seed trucks.

Just another spring day on the farm.

Water is already becoming a major concern this year, with low snowpack and many farmers deciding not to plant due to limited irrigation. We’re hoping every bit of moisture helps.
