Today’s all about manure — hauling it, spreading it, and fixing all the stuff that breaks in between. Josh hauled yesterday, so it’s my turn to jump in the truck, grease the chains, check the bearings… and of course, realize we’re missing a few parts. A bent bracket knocked off the chain tightener, so I fire up the torch and get things patched together.

At the dairy pit, things are looking better than yesterday — more solids mixed in, making it easier to haul and spread. I head to the field and share why manure is one of our best fertilizers. It’s packed with nutrients, helps improve soil structure, and has transformed our sandy soil into some of the best ground around. We’ve even harvested most of the rocks out over the years thanks to growing potatoes!

Of course, a few breakdowns hit — a basket falls off one truck, a brake can goes bad, and the Western Star eats a chunk of concrete. Typical spring chaos. Meanwhile, Christopher’s out planting grain where we already spread.
